Butterfly House Collodi

butterfly house di collodiThe most beautiful butterflies of the world fly around the marvellous Gardens of Villa Garzoni in Collodi. More or less 800 of the most beautiful butterfly species come from around the world.  In the COLLODI BUTTERFLY HOUSE, exemplary beauties have found a home.

It is treated as one of the first Butterfly Houses to be established in Italy, which was opened 31 March 2007 by the Carlo Collodi Foundation. Here you can admire the exotic gardens, in which every day the most charming butterflies court, feed, and reproduce in Amazon, tropical African and Indo-Australian style ambients.
Butterfly House Information
The Garden within a Garden, with rare plants laid out in respect of a biological eco-system, producing the natural habitat for the lovely butterflies, day and night.  Inside the structure you can see all the development stages of the butterfly: egg, caterpillar, pupa and butterfly.  You can meet, in real-life, some of these significant exemplaries, recognising the various colours and the adopted make-up for survival, like camouflage.  Between the most studied species, there are the heliconidineotropicali, who have developed a complex social behaviour.  These butterflies can be observed while passing the day exploring the surrounding environment; they then run through again with regularity, the last path to places of evening aggregation, where they cluster themselves, to sleep together.
In the COLLODI BUTTERFLY HOUSE you will also find a centre dedicated to insects that houses rare species of insects and ants of scientific interest.  All the butterflies are integrated in an environment specially achieved for them, giving them space and habitat, which is useful for their life. There are natural biological control systems, mineral salt nourishment which is present in the soil, plants that produce flowers adapted for their nourishment, correct lighting, shade and humidity.
